This thread is just for opinions on the tactics and actual warfare in the Six Day War. This is not meant to start a fight between anybody just pure historical facts. Enjoy.

A well thought out attack on opponents who were not expecting war and whose military was mostly overseas. A brilliants tactical and strategic operation.

Actually, the Arab countries were expecting it, the war started as an Israeli pre-empitve strike. But yes, it was a brilliants tactical and strategic operation.

Its pretty much been conclusively proved that Nasser did not expect war and nither did the Egyptian general staff, the two divisions sent to the Sinai were hardly a threat and the Egyptian airforce had not been dispersed.

A great victory.

No doubt that this military event showed, once for all, the clear superiority of Israel with reference to the surrounding Arab countries.

The process of that conflict was rapid:

First of all a note: as for I know the Soviet services said something about to the Egyptian government.

On May 22nd /23rd Egypt declared Suez closed to Israeli ships.
On May 30th Egypt and Syria signed a pact of mutual defense.
On June 1st Israel saw a government of National Unity.

The strategic key of that extraordinary victory was the ‎"Mivtza Moked"[מבצע מוקד], the "Focus Operation". A decisive and massive air strike against a considerable number of targets in enemy territories.

To enter a historical perspective [so considering large temporal horizons], Egypt recovered in good part from the results of that war [Sinai is Egyptian], while Syria and Jordan suffered a durable loss of regional power and territorial sovereignty.

For armored warfare lovers like me, the Six Days' War is indeed a great event, not only for the tank battles(a pretty rare happening since WWII) but also for the variety of vehicles employed by both sides: Shermans,Cromwells, French AMX tanks,Pattons,Panzer IVs, T-34,T-54,IS-3...

that preemptive strike was the key to it and the israelis did an amazing job in getting so many sorties up, i think on average most aircraft flew 5 sorties on the first day which was a number most would have though was impossible. the bold attack through the sinai desert was also planned well and they caught there opponents with there pants down.
