When did uniforms become less colorful and more camouflaging?

Green uniforms were used by Jaegers and Rogers Rangers in the 18th century and most Riflemen in the 19th century.

When armies became larger, when the rifled bullet became common, when tactics
were forced to change, when different theaters of war presented itself and the other side made advantages over you.

I love the idea of a man who builds a time machine despite having no knowledge of history. Why did you build it then? Why did you want to go back?!

Well, it happened round about the time that Generals finally realized that the brighter the uniform that a soldier wore, the easier a target that soldier became...

For the British: a gradual process between Isandlhwana and Second Boer War. The 50 or so survivors of Isandlwana all wore dark uniforms. No one wearing red uniforms made it.

By the Second Boer War even Scottish regiments started to camouflage their kilts etc.
