Wouldnt the best source be Nazi propaganda films? I mean you're literally watching what they were watching. There's no way a Hollywood director who didn't live in WWII German could portray an authentically German perspective.

i'll second that. that book gives incredible insight into what the german soldier underwent and the psychological pressure of a brutal war that turned many men into total psychopaths.

Um...

Could try some of the Germans post-WWII war films.

"Des Teufels General" from the 1950's

"Die Abenteuer des Werner Holt" from the 60's (which has a title sounding like a German Boy's Own Magazine story, but is an anti-war film.)

"Die Blechdrommel", the film after the novel by Günter Grass, set in Danzig during the 30's and the war, which for all the bizarre aspects of the boy who refuses to grow up gives a lot of info and atmosphere.

Only 3% of the movies from the nazi era were war movies, ca. 30 movies. One was Kampfgeschwader Lützow, the campaign in Poland or the westwall or feuertaufe, kampf um Norwegen, some of them documentaries. One famous is festung Kolberg. But the majority was not about WWII.
