World War II from German perspective?

I know there are countless films and books about the American perspective of WWII, but does anyone know of any films or books that are portrayed from the German perspective?

I think you have to look at films and books by Germans who lived through that period in time. Hollywood's portrayal of the German perspective would probably not reflect a genuine "memory" . For example if I wanted to understand a French perspective on WWI i'd recommend La Grande Illusion.

For docudramas I like Downfall though.

FIlms I know of that follow the German perspective

Das Boot - Best submarine movie of all time.
Cross Of Iron - Eastern front Lee Marvin film.
Downfall.

I can't think off hand of a balanced one. I don't think there is anything that honestly reflects the German perspective in popular culture. Maybe locally to Germany but not in international culture. What seems to predominate in the international sphere is anti-war movies (Not entirely a bad thing, but certainly not balanced either) rather than an honest historical look into the German perception of the war. Now that would be interesting.

Das Boot and Downfall are both excellent films and portray charachters and events in a realistic fashion.

Books and films can portray much about warfare, letters home from the front tell the real story.

Heimat showed Germany in the war, think the link above is correct.

Die Brucke - Go for the black and white one not the colour remake. You can sometimes see the farm cart wheels under the supposed US tanks but its a far better movie.

Das Boot and Downfalll are both world class.
