What country has the proudest and brightest military history?

Title.

What country has the brightest military history of them being powerful and winning?

It could be long history of culture even when their nation was founded. (For example French can still consider Gauls, Germany can still consider Prussia, or Italy the Romans)

Lets not get too biased now. I think the first goes to Britan with all their victories in conquest and WWII. the second goes to Russia, they had rocky pasts but went up in WWII.(I'm from USA btw)

I'd submit Sweden as the most cost-effective, doing most with the least.

Mongolia did pretty well for themselves considering they were able to forge the worlds second largest empire out of a collection of nomadic tribes, as well as subjugate great swathes of territory (such as parts of the Middle East) that had a firmly established sedentary population and technology more than qualified to fight them with.

Britain I would also agree has a pretty remarkable military past. The amount of territory they were able to conquer (and hold for centuries) and the influence they left across the globe (not just in the fact that English is currently one of the worlds primary languages) definitely qualifies as a "bright" history of military achievement.

Interesting point of view Apache.

I would say Britain has the proudest and overall brightest military history. Israel has a very short history, but also one filled with a lot of military success it seems. The United States could be a contender, certainly for the past fifty years we've been the brightest, maybe not the proudest.

Russia can be included here too.

In the last 65 years probably Israel - superpowers like the USA or the USSR had their blunders.

I think that Israeli military had a brighter performance during the past fifty (or even 65) years. The US military had some blunders in this period - it fought Korea to a stalemate (it can be considered a victory, but China can also consider it her victory) and it failed to win in Vietnam.

On the other hand, during WW2 the US performed very well. Their short involvement in WW1 was also good.

I think it would be helpful as to what criteria are we basing the two terms used: proudest and brightest.

I think it depends on what you mean by "bright". The United States failed in their objectives during the war in Viet Nam and were not able to succeed in their attempted push into North Korean territory during the 50s (although granted during that war they succeeded in their initial goal, that being to contain the spread of Communism.)
If you count their overall "victory" at the end of the Cold War, though, then I guess your idea applies.
