The main artillery might also have used the howitzers to fire over the crest, a delicate business, of course, but it might have caused the squares to break, at which point the cavalry would deploy. the problem was, Wellington's could not bee seen.
The Royal Horse Artillery, we're, of course, part of Wellington's defence of his squares. The gunners would pepper the advancing cavalry with grapeshot, then remove one wheel from the gun and run like hell, carrying it into the square. Sometimes one of the gunners would take cover under the gun. Very risky if there were lancers about.
Ney did bring some horse artillery after the fall of Mont St Jean, he did shoot on british squares and did break some of them, but light artillery by itself is not enough to finish off infantry squares, you need infantry reinforcements that Ney asked to Napoleon and that Napoleon refused to send, having to deal with the new threat of Von Bulow's 10,000 men on his right.

Over rated.

Soldiers fighting for their own country in their own country will always fight better, than those who are sent to foreign lands
to fight for the freedom of others.

Which country boasted the greatest soldiers?

The US, obviously. They are better at boasting.

Rightfully so.

What other soldier has had to fight in foreign lands for the freedom of other people, as often as the US soldier ?

thats an interesting point, i wasn't aware of Napoleon refusing infantry support because of having to face the Prussians, definitely something to bring up in any discussion of whether the prussian presence made the difference.

Is that why they are everywhere? You could have fooled me - and them too, probably. What are they doing for the freedom of Pakistan at the moment? Bang bang bang.

Trying to keep the Taliban from returning to Afghanistan.

I don't agree with us being over there, but this thread isn't about that.

You gotta be trolling or something. I really like sarcasm but your post has so much of it it's hard to take it.
