There was no such thing as "allied" soldiers - the Red army soldiers at the beginning of the war were one kind of soldiers, those of 1943-45 were way different. Even more different were the british soldiers, the US, Indian, Polish, Free French etc. It's even hard to say "German" soldiers, since there was much difference between the Wehrmacht, the SS, the Luftwaffe etc., but putting all Allied soldiers together is way unspecific.

let me revive this topic

croat-bulgarian war

bulgaria conquers serbia and then sends a massive army towards croatia. outnumbered several times, croatia won

battle of sisak

croatian soldiers, outnumbered several times, destroyed an ottoman army, while losing about 50 troops

napoleon

"croats are the best soldiers in the world. give me 2000 and i will dinner in moscow. give me 100000 and i will conquer all world"

croatian independence war

a few 1000 croat peasants destroy the fifth strongest army in the world, while severly outnumbered and underequiped (farm planes with boiler bombs vs mig-21, few t 34 vs thousands of m84)

more recently, a patrol of austrian and croat soldiers are ambushed in syria. austrians are wounded, some heavily, while croats got out without a scratch

sorry for misspelling, im writing this on my phone

Maybe it's been previously mentioned but I'd say the best soldiers are usually the ones fighting in the most desperate situations with not much or nothing to lose. E.g. various resistance and partisan groups during WW2, the Red Army in the same period, Vlad III Tepes in his campaigns against the Ottomans, etc.

Pretty much. Since Croatia in your examples was fighting at home mainly their advantage wasn't only logistics, the knowledge of the region, terrain etc but also the fact that they could not retreat.

but thetes the factor about being outnumbered and underequiped SEVERALL times, while barely taking any casualties. and terrain mostly does not count, since these were open field battles/fort defences. let me tell you of another story

during the thirty years war, pope ordered the habsburg monarhy to conquer belgium, and their main goal was antwerpen. they started mobilising their forces, and they sent a single regiment of croat cavalry to clear the path, and make camp next to antwerpen and wait for the rest of the army. and once the main army finally arrived, they had a sight to see: the single regiment of croat hussars burnt the entire antwerpen to the ground. a single regiment vs. a heavily fortified city... impressive, right?
