Great story Vera.

As for the subject of the thread as a whole, I see war as forcing the vast majority of people to do things they would never normally do while allowing a small minority of people to do exactly what they want to do.

Most people don't want to kill but are forced by circumstance to point and shoot. It must be strange after trying to kill someone to be helping them.

I think the photo of the German soldiers helping the Russian is great seeing as how the Eastern Front is always portrayed as merciless.

I love those pictures, especially the one with the German soldiers treating the Allied soldier.

It's things like this that tells you that there is still good, even in a warzone, and between enemies.

Emotional stories !
But after all, soldiers are just people like all of us, not fighting-robots.
Lunatics left out of consideration, soldiers just want to live in peace with their neighbours instead of killing them. Both sides are forced to do things to persons they don't hate or even know.

WWII Compassion

Dear Sturm,

I am producing a WWII documentary about acts of compassion during WWII. Where did you find these photos? Is there a way I can reach you via Facebook or your email account? You can find me on FB - I am the only one with my name. Let me know, if you can, your FB name on here so that I can accept you as a friend.

Thank you!

Thank you for your interest. As for facebook, i don't use facebook and i don't have an account there.

The photos that i have posted are all found thanks to google search, you click images, and write "compassion during world war 2", you will get a few photos there, and those will lead to sites with even more photos of such occasions.
I commend you on your choice for documentary, the compassion in war is often neglected, but human virtues and goodness could be found in even the most violent of places.

the gassing of jews policy was turned to as an act of compassion, as it was found the special commando tasked with executing jewish people through musketry were suffering psychological effects.
