Best Weapons

What do you believe to be the overall (keyword: overall) Best weapon and such for each of the classes listed below. This assumes that all weapons and such are being used by people of equal skill in the use. Also, this decision is not influenced by the time period or stuff, so no "I would say the.... just because, though it wasnt the best, it still was effective against others at the time".

Classes:
*Sword
*Long-Range Hand-held (Pikes and such)
*Bow
*Musket
*Rifle
*Machine Gun/Semi-Automatic
*Pistol
*Bomber
*Fighter
*Tank/Armoured
*Nuclear
*Strange things (Flying Pendelum and such)

The best weapon is the one never used or fired in anger.

So, can we assume the pen would be your best sword?

I wonder if I'd get any argument if I picked the T-34 for best tank?

Thos. Jefferson in a letter to Thos. Paine said it better than I could, "Go on then in doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword: shew that reformation is more practicable by operating on the mind than on the body of man, and be assured that it has not a more sincere votary nor you a more ardent well-wisher than Yrs. &c." 19 June 1792
or even
Robert Buron in 1621, in his The Anatomy of Melancholy
stated: "A blow with a word strikes deeper than a blow with a sword"

Classes:
*Sword : This weapon is highly specialized and the best ones are determined by the purpose for it. When it came to fighting a poorly armored enemy, the Shamshir and the Talwar are easily the best of its class. For its durability and versatality against lightly armored and armorless enemies, the Katana is probably the best. Against heavily armored enemies, the Katar wins, while for stabbing action, the Gladius is the best.

*Long-Range Hand-held (Pikes and such)
: Probably the pikes used by the swiss guard.

*Bow : In terms of mobility and compactness, the Mongol-Persian bow, in terms of sheer range and durability, the steel bow(used by Gupta-Pala empire period nobility) while the bamboo longbow wins for a widely used bow.

Do I count as a possibility under "Strange things?"

I would consider the human to be the greatest "overall" weapon.

Being a sword collector I agree a sword is my fave weapon, however

a talwar a foot longer than a katana so better. A Nodachi would be a better choice of Japanese sword.

Now against a single unarmoured enemy I'd go for a rapier range plus speed. Against multiple unarmoured opponents or lightly armoured I'd go for a Dha and against an armoured enemy in heavy leather or chainmail a Falchion would be my choice. Indoors a kukri and for a general side arm a song sword. On horse back a 1796 Pattern British Light Cavalry Sabre. If I was a novice swordsman with no training a Dadao an if I was in a drawing contest a katana.

A persons mind is his best weapon. How do you think all weapons were made? the mind thought of it, and it will continue doing so.
