Moulins sous pont Paris.jpg

The ship mill is a Byzantine invention, designed to mill grains using hydraulic power. The technology eventually spread to the rest of Europe and was in use until c. 1800. The image was made by an unknown French miniaturist in 1300s with the title "Vie de saint Denis. Ponts de Paris avec des moulins à blé".
