Rockabilly is a distinctive genre of music that combines the Blues and Rock and Roll and has a drum beat. Rockabilly was arguably first created by Elvis Presley in 1954 at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Some might argue that Rockabilly is an exclusive music to Southern working class youth of the 1950s but Chuck Berry performed a very successful Rockabilly song " Maybelline" in 1955. Rockabilly became very popular in Great Britain and it has fans among Mexican - Americans. Rockabilly did not die out by the 1960s as its popularity had ups and downs it still is being performed today. Rockabilly definitely pushed back against the staid social norms of mid Twentieth Century America as we shall hear.
