A world without Islam?

Those 120 years of Western domination outweights, historically speaking, almost everything the Indian or Chinese civilisations did in the last 1000 years.

Europe and North America during that period, created, spearheaded and expanded the largest Revolution humanity has ever witnessed since the Neolithic period, and the Globalization process that they lead was the most expansive one.

You can very well treat "Europe" or Western civilisation as a single unit when analysing major historical themes, just like you are analysing India and China as a single entity, when for many periods in history both China and India were not unified political entities.
... and the world power as it means have been totally defined.

To be fair, we can argue that in the last 500 years or so, the West and the adopters of its style of development, have introduced an unprecedented existential crisis for humanity as well.

I hold Islam in as much contempt as I do any other silly primative belief system. But cult?

Cults require
Single unquestioned leader.
Isolation from society and family.
Communal living.
Brainwashing.
Secrecy.

Islam has no leader.
They are pretty open and easy to see all their foibles.
They are not communal and are spread out.
Brainwashing... well only in the same way all religious types are. But not in the cult way.
They are very loud and vocal.

Scientology. CULT.
Hinduism. NOT CULT.
Moonies. CULT.
Christianity. NOT CULT.
Branch Davidians. CULT.
Islam. NOT CULT.
Aum. CULT.

As to the thread. With out Islam...
Arabs would still be Arabs. Possibly they’d be still pagans. Or the Zorostarians or Christians got to them first. Or Jews.

Either way we’d have FGM, veils, chopping off of hands but just in the name of Christ/Jehova or The Great Moo or whatever.

Mathematics and Science would be set back quite a bit.
Numbers would look different... maybe even Roman numerals.
The Middle East would be culturally richer.

we wouldn't have a standard number system in that case, indians would be using the current ones and europeans may be the roman ones.

Science means "observed facts"; it is neither the truth nor the fallacy and is subject to challenges.
Humanity is facing a few unprecedented crisis:
Population explosion in the developing countries, especially the least developed countries.
Unchecked global warming.
National borders and interests render international efforts almost impossible.

Yeah good one. The truth can be challenged as much as you like.

I totally appreciate everything the muslims in the past had done. People all over the world built great cities and nurtured great intellectuals. And muslim leaders had shown unexpected mercy towards captives in many wars.

But though islam has lead to less atrocities than christianity, its old-testament style scripture makes islam unfit to adapt the modern secular world; a world where people no longer see their ethnicity and religion superior; a world where violence of any kind is somewhat condemned. In the past, yes, that ideology did well among all the traditional cultures and traditions of the past, but the world changed then; and that was the end of islam as the superior culture.

An inferior culture, but a perfect one? The success of salafism is always so fascinating to me.

I believe the intention of the poster is: If the world was without islam then, and the byzantines and sassanids not destroyed by a mysterious force pouring out of the desert, would the world witness a slower progress and a reduced legacy of achievements?
All of the western religions started as cuilts Christianity, Judaism, cults become religions if the grow over time and with increased membership. I have wondered what the world would have been like without any religion
