Small as it is, it's more than what was thought to exist that long ago. When I was in school, Mesopotamia was the origin of everything. Now we see there were things before that. Who knows how much more will be found in the future.
When you were in school, cultures long-predating what you most likely refer to as "Mesopotamia" were already apprehended by archaeology (unless you're extremely old). Your teachers just didn't see fit to cover them. I mean, really, Kathleen Kenyon excavated Jericho in the 1950s. As for what may be found in the future, we're just as likely to find evidence for the existence of the tooth fairy as a super advanced Atlantean civilization.
