The British government came into conflict with the East India Company many times throughout the companies' existence, what if the company had attempted to break ties with the British government and provided armed resistance? perhaps it allied itself with another power, either a local power in India or a European power?

This scenario is so far fetched that I cannot even think of a possible response.

What, and have its officers in London arrested, and those in India never able to return to dear old blighty?

In the 1770s there was talk of the company siding with the American rebels, at this point the government's legislative control over the company was limited and the company possessed a private army of more than 200,000 men

It could never happen!

How would the E.I.C. survive with India Pale Ale (or gin for that matter) declared contraband by H.M. government?

Legislative control is only one means of governmental tyranny.

The British officers would have rebelled against the company in a heartbeat if that happened, and the Indian Mutiny would have happened a century earlier that it did.
