Any evidence for Tifinagh or Nsibidi in pre-Ghana Sahel?

I understand Nsibidi is more of a forest kingdom creation, but I saw on Gus Casely-Hayfor's programs that West Africa was more inter-connected than once was thought.

Perhaps some other form of writing?

I have also occasionally heard it said that Vai and a couple of other African writing systems dated to the modern era have ancient antecedents. Any evidence, perhaps in the Timuktu libraries or inscribed somewhere?
