Anyone else watching Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s Reconstruction documentary on PBS?

The Castle Anthrax
In the first episode at about 18:05 this picture is shown;
4923-004-DB50021A.jpg
which is The Shirley House in Vicksburg MS. Union soldiers tried to mine under the rebel line at that site. The documentary shows this picture while discussing the Freedman's' Bureau's attempt at redistributing federal lands in the South. To anyone unfamiliar with this photo and its story, as I was when I first saw the documentary, it appears to be a plantation with shockingly poor homes for the slaves in the foreground. I have otherwise enjoyed watching this documentary; however, I am disappointed at the spurious use of this photo. It makes me wonder how reliable is this documentary?

Thanks Phalo—I’m recording it and will watch when I have a chance.

Could also be dugouts cut into the hillside for protection against Union artillery, which is what I thought it when I first saw the foto
