Artigas-led trek from Uruguay

Nov 2010
Was the Oriental Exodus from present-day Uruguay in 1811-12 (under the leadership of the independence hero Jose Gervasio Artigas), which at one point ended up in nearby parts of Argentina, meant to be as sustained and long-distance a trek as the Boer Great Trek in South Africa or the Mormon migration westward to Utah (both later in the 19th century) even if it ended up not being such a long and sustained trek comparatively?
