Greetings all

I have been looking, for quite some time, for a decent one-volume history of Persia from the first empires of Medes and Achaemenids to the Islamic Revolution. Something akin to John Keay's "India: A History" and "China: A History". Does anyone know of a book of this sort?

Thank you!

Try Iran: Empire of the Mind by Michael Axworthy. A great read and pretty insightful on the country's amazing and varied history.

Not specifically about Iran, but you might also enjoy Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan. There's a lot in there that will shed a new light on world history. I'd also recommend No God but God by Reza Aslan, a book that deals with the history of Islam and the Muslim world.
