What, in your opinion, are the best books on life in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica? I am interested in a good book for beginners.

A really good book on the Maya is
Chronicle of the Maya Kings and Queens: Deciphering The Dynasties of the Ancient Maya

Popol Vuh is also interesting to read.

Linda Schele (R.I.P.) A Forest of Kings is a good introduction to the Maya and the dechiperment of their language. Perhaps a bit dated by now.
This is a Link to PDF; haven't checked it out myself, as I've perused my paperback copy into tatters.A Forest of Kings PDF
