Dave's History Podcast Collection

Jan 2017
Tampa, FL
My collection exists as a Google+ collection here.

But here it is just for you folks. Unfortunately there is no organization to it right now. It is hard to know what organization scheme to use, since, there are some podcasts that span multiple eras, and some that focus on the development of some particular thing (like language) throughout History.

Without further ado and in no particular order (although it starts with a few of my favorites).

The British History Podcast

Description: "The BHP is a chronological retelling of the history of Britain with a particular focus upon the lives of the people. You won't find a dry recounting of dates and battles here, but instead you'll learn about who these people were and how their desires, fears, and flaws shaped the scope of this island at the edge of the world."

The History of England Podcast

Description: "I have loved and lived with the story of the history of the English for as long as I can remember. This is my retelling of that story, in a regular, chronological podcast, from the cataclysmic end of Roman Britain, all the way through to the present day. I’m a bloke in a shed, this is not a dry retelling of events; I make sure this is good, properly prepared history, but I fill it with my love and enthusiasm for history, and some of the things that make me laugh. You’ll find the great events and people for sure – but also some of the byways, of how people lived, their language, and the forces that shaped their lives and destinies."

Life of Alexander the Great

Description: "Alexander III of Macedon, aka “The Great”. We’ve all heard of him. He’s one of the most famous leaders in all of history. But how much do you really know about his life and adventures?

Born in 356 BCE, tutored by Aristotle, he succeeded his father, Philip II, as king at the age of 20.

To put that in perspective, Gaius Julius Caesar was 41 when he first commanded an army in Gaul and Napoleon Bonaparte was 30 when he became First Consul of France. By the time Alexander died, a mere 13 years later, he had built an empire that spanned two-thirds of the known world.

Why is he still remembered today as one of the great military geniuses?
How is his story relevant to the modern world?
How can we find an endless supply of catchphrases and silly jokes out of his story?

Those are some of the questions we are going to ask on this show. Like the rest of our historical series, we’re going to start at the beginning (actually, a little before that, with Philip) and tell a linear story covering the entire life and saga.

Come with us on a journey."

As soon as I figure out how to get a handle on the ungodly mess that represents my own collection of material I will pass on any insights that I may have.

Don't hold your breath though. :D

Great list, I've listened to many of these and I particularly liked The History of Byzantium. A couple other I didn't see on there are When Diplomacy Fails and Spycast. Spycast isn't strictly history but has lots of episodes dedicated to spying in WW2 and The Cold War.

Yes, I just heard about "When Diplomacy Fails," as it was mentioned on the Anglo Saxon history podcast. I will add it to the list and check on Spycast.
