Macron having a slight lead seems slightly promising but I'm not going to believe in a happy ending until its finally there.

The outcome seems to close to call which is very worrying.

The turnout is lower than expected, I think. Still, it seems this will be very tight. Anything's possible.

France's polling commission has warned voters not to pay attention to a poll doing the rounds that has fallen foul of the country's strict election laws. The commission says it has received assurances from eight polling organisations that they didn't come up with the details of the poll, carried out after the murder of a policeman on the Champs Elysees on Thursday.

So, it seems we'll have to wait.

Anyone who has been following french politics cannot say that having a candidate -that was entirely manufactured by the media and the oligarchy and supported by all kinds of dirty politics- elected is a "happy result"....

This is the stuff of totalitarian tales and countries... it shows how the electorate can be manipulated and is rather the harbringer of the death of democracy

Can we try and avoid politics and discuss this in the current events context? Because this thread will likely get closed and we won't have a chance to discuss it at all, which would be a mistake since this clearly is potentially history in the making.

I'm not really sure how to divorce politics from what is happening, all the more so now that both sides are so polarized they consider the other one to be extremely controversial.

It's interesting, French Interior Ministry warns of 'fake news' and not to trust any exit polls. But RTBF still claims Macron in a clear lead. Could be game over for Le Pen in the first round...

I can't see such an outcome happening. With both the conservatives and socialists appearing in such a slump the populist block has a a more certain and more dedicated amount of voters that will vote for them. And if Le Pen has always been prominent and if the opposition is so weak I can't see how she wouldn't pass the first round with ease.
