Years ago I had a tape recording which included a rendition of Witch of the Westmoreland. Well, the player ate that tape, and I've been trying to find another copy ever since. Problem is, I never knew exactly who sang it. Definitely wasn't Stan Rogers or Archie Fisher. Lead singers were a male and female, sometimes harmonizing, other times one or the other singing lead.

Beautiful effort on their part. Anyone here ever heard a recorded rendition that fits the description, or know of a data base where I might track it down?

Yes Chookie lets not restrict ourselves to the Irish only ;)

Afro Celt Sound System.

The inspiration behind the project dates back to 1991, when Simon Emmerson, a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award"]Grammy Award[/ame]-nominated British [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_producer"]producer[/ame] who would become the group's guitarist, collaborated with Afro-pop star [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baaba_Maal"]Baaba Maal[/ame]. While making an album with Maal in Senegal, Emmerson was struck by the similarity between one African melody and a traditional Irish air. Back in London, Irish musician [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Spillane"]Davy Spillane[/ame] told Emmerson about a belief that nomadic Celts lived in Africa or India before they migrated to Western Europe. Whether or not the theory was true, Emmerson was intrigued by the two countries' musical affinities.

Nice thread.... However, I do believe that besides Celtic Folk Music, there should be a thread about Celtic folks (females). What do you think, General Colins?
