Not really my subject but, whilst watching one of the Discovery/History/Nat Geo channels yesterday I was quite struck by the extent to which the Catholic church went to hiding Paul Touvier in France for 40 years after the war. In the form of the 'Knights of Notre Dame'. Quite shocking really. But it is maybe indicative that Pompidou actually gave him a pardon - which is what provoked such outrage that he eventually got charged with crimes against humanity.

France is quite noted for anti-semitic incidents today is it not?

About Touvier:

Anyone have more knowledge of this affair?

I suppose that it's fitting that prostate cancer ultimately ended up killing him. Still, like Maurice Papon, he got to live much longer than he probably deserved.

As for French anti-Semitism nowadays, that's primarily due to France's current huge Muslim population, no?

Or maybe not?
