What if Giuseppe Zangara would have succeeded in his attempt to kill FDR in 1933--shortly before FDR's inauguration?

In real life, he missed FDR and shot and killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak instead. What if, in this scenario, he kills FDR either in place of or in addition to Chermak?

In this scenario, FDR's VP pick John Nance Garner is going to become the new US President once Herbert Hoover's term will end. How would the US have fared under a Garner Presidency and what would have happened both in the US and in the rest of the world afterwards?
