I don't always listen to symphonies all the way through. Depending on the work, I'll listen to my favorite movements more often. I do this a lot with Beethoven's 7th. With the Sixth I'm drawn in from the first notes and have to listen to the whole thing. There's just something about this symphony.

Somehow I don't recall this thread at it's inception...

Has there been a lobby for that "melancholic" Hector Berlioz in the thread?

My two best experiences hearing the Chicago Symphony live were: A. Eroica, of course by L. V. Beethoven and B. Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique.

I believe Daniel Barenboim was the conductor for each of those.
