In its ENTIRE History (a lot, I know), which general(s) do you think were amongst the greatest Generals in the world, for their tactics , strategy, feats of conquests, amongst others.

The general (or commander) has to be from the Middle East ! (No Alexander!! )

I nominate Nader Shah :)

Okay sounds good, i find this a very hard decision to make. Il give a short few sentence(s) for each general.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad: May not have won many battles but Guadalete was the start of the next few hundred of years of Muslim domination in Iberia.

Nur uddin Zengi: Reveresed the trends of the Crusades firstly by defending Damascus successfully and then the Battles at Inab and Ba´rin. However his greatest acheivement was unifying Egypt and Syria under one rule thus pushing the Crusaders from both sides. His decision to send his general Shirkuh to Egypt would prove desicive as Shirkuhs nephew Salahdin would one day retake most of the holy land and complete Nuruddins mission.
