Had China democratized in 1989, what would the last 30 years have looked like for China?

Chinese-Swedish hostility. :lol::lol::lol:
Oh, it's actually a real thing.

It's so bizarre we now know a requisite for Swedish journalists to get a work-permit in China is to in the obligatory interview at the Chinese embassy distance themselves from Jojje Olsson – a reporter on the staff of of small Swedish magazine.

Yet the Mighty People's Republic of China has decicded He Matters... Which is completely incongruous, totally ludicrous – and precisely because of that actually intimidating. The CCP has no sense of perspective, proportion or reason. It has completely arbitrarily decided to single out a no-consequence individual in a foreign country and MAKE his matter like all hell.

We live in Interesting Times. :)

Maybe Mr. Olsson is a practitioner of Falun Gong. :D

It is bizarre that someone would get so worked up over a topic in Speculative History.

Weird, huh? You may well think so.

The only risks people take on this kind of anonymous forum are social. Things matters only as much as we decide ourselves. This is more interesting like this.

Why post anything at all if not even you think it's about something that matters?

Then live as you preach. But China isn't.

Your surprised you can't attack democracy and not get a reaction – at home AND abroad. That's about it.

China is the enemy of democracy. We're fast moving away from the situation where it might be hope China would democratize of its own accord, and as is now also clear, China won't accept to just to keep to itself.

To the extent this is an effect of the new Chinese relative wealth and power in the world – it's obvious that when the west enjoyed that kind of relative advantages in wealth and power over China in the 19th c. it did NOT make the westerners better or wiser in any way for it. But the SAME applies to China – that it now has the wealth and power means it becomes crucial to stand up to it and confront it, because the Chinese wealth and power is NOT making the Chinese inherently better or wiser.

(As for what the devil you think some American lady having weird opinions is supposed to mean, I can't even begin to guess. Nor do I much care.)

oh my god, this non-sense again. don't pretend to be fool, you me and most peoples on this forum are smart people know that democracy are death sentence to china.
within democracy, all ethnic minorities will seek more and more freedom and independence, first will be free speech, secondly will ask more political autonomy, then ask for self determination, and then at last will seek completely independence through referendum or rebellion.

mike pompeo and most american elite know this, they are not fool, their ultimate goal is china divided into many smaller states. they pretend that they are an angel, they pretend that they care about chinese and ethnic minorities freedom and human right but we all know all of this have devil intention to achieve one single ultimate goal, china's total destruction.

do you know how much diverse china is? china have 56 ethnicities. ethnic han + 55 ethnic minorities, even within han ethnicity there is at least 7 sub-group which is mandarin-wu-gan-xiang-min-cantonese-hakka.

imagine if china become democratic countries and every ethnicities and han sub group founded their own political party, it will be 62 political parties that fighting for their own political and ethnic interest, there will become very messy for chinese politic, it will bring china to no where, stagnated, just to accommodating all ethnic minorities wishes.

you just dont understand anything, you just want china divided.

Just demonstrates what I said then – the Chinese have no confidence in China OR the Chinese. You have decided you NEED to be ruled by an authority that is not answerable to the people – because you fear the Chinese. Of course, that IS what the Chinese public is being told to think about it by the CCP. To fear itself, so that it becomes acceptable to be ruled from above.

talking and insulting are easy, you and your kin (swedish) never conquer and rule many many different peoples who have different ethnicities, tribes, languages, dialects, religions, ideologies, mindsets, interests all together. not easy to rule such very diverse and multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religion, multi-language country like china.

normal countries will never like separatist, whatever ideology or system that countries believe in. even democratic spanish government use violence to stop catalan separatism, what make you think china will let any piece of it's land go just like that?
