Had the Nazis never come to power in Germany, could we see an Eastern European NATO-style alliance develop by the 1950s or so? For the record, I am thinking of having a rearmed Germany (and German rearmament was probably inevitable with or without the Nazis) make alliances with Finland, the Baltic countries, Poland (if it agrees to give the Polish Corridor back to Germany, which is probably unlikely to actually occur voluntarily), and Romania to protect all of these countries from the threat of Soviet aggression. Germany might be willing to let the Soviet Union expand up to the Curzon Line if it is going to go to war with the Poles in order to reacquire the Polish Corridor, but other than that I don't think that Germany would actually be willing to see any Soviet expansion--which in turn is going to raise the question of a defensive alliance between Germany and various Eastern European countries.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the idea of such a defensive alliance? Is it actually realistic?

Also, if the Soviet Union still eventually breaks up and collapses in this scenario, is Germany going to try to expand this alliance into formerly Soviet territory afterwards?

This is getting ridiculous. No one needs to create as many threads as you do.

Create fewer threads, and spend more time participating in the threads you have already created. Don't make us put a limit on how many threads you are allowed to create.
