The Stug was a far better fighting vehicle, the Hetzer was too small and had poor crew vision, it was useful for ambushing advancing tanks from cover but nothing else. How does it compare to the Stug chassis? I have always heard that was the most effective .
Oddly, it was a Romanian design that inspired it, while Soviets, tho taking possession of Romanian and German blueprints and plans, didn't continued the idea.Cheap and cheerful , gave some backbone to the poor infantry and a headache to the Shermans
the ergonomics were soooooo bad it could have been designed by Soviet
Open Topped, the TC way have been able to direct the SPG better, like the Soviets later did with the ASU-57.Oddly, it was a Romanian design that inspired it, while Soviets, tho taking possession of Romanian and German blueprints and plans, didn't continued the idea.

Yes, losing the armor would have taken away from the 'tiny mobile pillbox' vibe it had going on and closer to the Marders.
But you can't shoot what you don't see, so the whole near blind pillbox idea was really daft when you look closer at it.
Being able to see, then shoot and scoot would have been more effective that being to snipe one Sherman, than try to figure out where the rest of that platoon is at, firing 76mm at your flanks, Shermans you can't even see.
TC = Tank or Track CommanderThank You.
I wasn't praising the "qualities" of the two (anyway, the Romanian one never was more than a prototype). Just pointing were from inspiration came.
