History is FAKE, CREATED, MANIPULATED, DISTORTED, etc.., and feed to the gullibles.

Even in films, documentaries, independent-tv made docs are carefully selected, programmed, manipulated on how it is presented.

Even in history forums, sometimes, they only want to hear and talk about...,
tell what they think is right or correct or as historians pictures them to be.
Anything that deviates or distorts what the other side of the story or history is NEVER told nor discussed or even given a chance to be scrutinized or dissected.

ALL everyone wants to hear, talk, discussed or watch are SANITIZED PRESENTATIONS or topics/subjects that doesn't alter the flow of 'standard history'.

EVERYONE wants to talk and discuss INTELLECTUAL SUBJECTS ABOUT HISTORY.., yet seems to shy away from controversial ones that may tell a different picture and perspective of it.

That is WHY the world is so f**c*ed up.

Churchill was correct is saying..' History is written by the victors

..and thus it has been since time began--forgery, lies, bias and invention.

From the erasure of Hatshepsut from Egyptian history by her successors to the reasons for the 2004 Gulf War--half of what you read and hear is a lie.

History is a form of knowledge all of its own. Unlike science it can have no direct access to its subject of study and so can make no experiments. Also, unlike the social sciences, it cannot simply collect more data if the available data is considered insufficient. It's not permitted to invent sources after all.

That makes history a kind of empirically sourced, narrative, interpretative probabilistics.

Does it open scope for abuse? Sure. Is it all lies? Hardly. Not unless you're actually out to make a mockery of it. Beginning with making up sources.

But it is more difficult than the sciences in its own way. All history is underdetermined, there is always a shortage of sources and documentation, and interpretations are always possible, sometimes necessary, to reopen for reinterpretation.

There are reasons why acribia is the foundation of any kind of serious and critical history.

Because of the above there can be considerable misunderstanding of what history is, and how it works. Not least the mistaken idea that it's all made up lies.

It's important to question and re-examine commonly held views, but we must also take care and not think there is no truth and no real facts. This is especially important in this day and age.

Tv documentaries ? ! The 'History Chanel ' ?

Well, of course they are not to be relied upon .... it is tv !

Thats how tv and film works . its a 'media of the imagination '

Ask Professor Brian Coy

... I mean professor Brian Cox

And the other tv science presenters who, all of a sudden, we see in their documentaries, driving speedboats, acting cool and participating in other edgy stuff, while they attempt to explain astrophysics, geology or bird migrations :D

One even got Einstein's theory wrong in explaining it on a tv doco ! :D

Then there is more edgy stuff in the presentation ; flash backs, camera and editing tricks, zooming in and out, sound effects .. all to back up some obscure point a 60 year old woman historian is making in a frail voice .... aahhhhh , tv !

But why believe Einstein's theories? They're only theories. Why believe anything that you haven't discovered yourself and proven to your own satisfaction?

They hv been proven & are still being every day in physics labs all over the world.
Of course. It's a rhetorical question challenging the perspective of the OP. The OP says flatly that history is fake rather than just saying dramatic representations of history are not reliable.

BTW physicists prefer "verified", leaving proofs to mathematicians and logicians.

I was watching an NPR funded special on a "new" theory of the extinction of dinosaurs. They interviewed a man that I know ... and pasted his few words into the middle of their narrative. It looked like he supported them ... when he actually held exactly the opposite view.

I was pretty surprised by this, and asked another fellow I know. He's a PhD that is consulted on the future of space exploration. He told me this is typical. They create a story they think will be popular, then throw out all the science/history that disagrees with it. They're interested in attracting viewers, not giving presentations that are ho-hum and truthful.

I frankly expect this with History & Discover channels, but was surprised when NPR does it too.
