History texts dealing with post-reconstruction, pre-civil rights era of jim crow laws

May 2019
HI all,

I've recently finished reading James McPherson's "Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era" and Eric Foner's "Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution, 1863 - 1877". I'm interested in continuing to read chronologically on the experience of African Americans, and while I've got together a good shortlist of potential titles dealing with the civil rights era, would anyone be able to recommend any history books they've read covering the period of Jim Crow law, post-reconstruction, pre-civil rights/brown vs board of education (approximately 1877-1953) that you've found particularity good? One recommendation I've already gotten has been "The Warmth of Other Suns", any others would be much appreciated.
