How important was U. S. Grant in developing tactics of modern warfare?

Grant, and his subordinate Sherman understood the totality of modern warfare in the context of the Civil War. To me, the infatuation of many with Lee is misplaced, I think Lee was a visionary, and I believe that history maintains that perspective.

It is not for nothing that so many have studied his campaigns and Sherman since. The Vicksburg campaign itself was truly remarkable.

I believe that Grant was the best general of Civil War. He also doesn't get enough credit for Overland campaign in my opinion.
