An interesting small article about a bird that could become extinct in the wild since the IS took over Palmyra.

It's sad to see that this adds to the horrific human toll and suffering, the destruction of historic and irreplaceable sites, and now potential animal extinction.

This is like the proverbial "when it rains it pours".

The Middle East really needs an unified army and create their own version of NATO to deal with regional terrorism. It's not like they don't have enough money... Saudi Arabia has the 4th largest defense budget.
Qatar seems to be flowing with money after buying the 2022 world cup too.

It's not the money that's the issue. It's that the three biggest military players - Iran, Israel, and Saudi Arabia - actively hate each other, and all others are too small to chip in or too socially-divided to pick a side.
