1. Post and discuss the latest discoveries.

2. Post and discuss good old fashioned Egyptology subjects and points of interest.

3. Post references when discussing controversial items. References must be from credible or accredited sources. "New Age" web sites or crank books are not credible references. Publications must have a form of academic standing or make a useful contribution to a discussion or post.

4. A little AE related humor is welcome when appropriate.

5. Crankage (Ancient Aliens, Giza Power Plant, Atlantis.....) is not welcomed on this thread. With the exception of excoriating it.

Greetings John,

Thank you for putting this thread up. Now that our discussion has been effectively liberated, we can finally discuss actual Egyptology once again.

The Ministry of Antiquities is offering visitors to King Seti I tomb in the Valley of the Kings on Luxor's west bank a free visit to the neighbouring King Tutankhamun's tomb.
Free visit to Tutankhamun's tomb, 17 October - Ancient Egypt - Heritage - Ahram Online

I worry as there are stability issues in the roof of the burial chamber of the tomb of Seti I. Allowing tourists in there with me raises questions. I am starting to feel the search for tourist dollars is a danger to these fragile sites. The very fragile tomb of Nefertari is in the same boat.

Points...

It's a shame that many of Egypt's ancient monuments have been turned into mere tourist traps. It kind of takes away from the majesty of the experience in my opinion. Nonetheless, Egypt is Egypt, and many important discoveries await. I am convinced that at least two antechambers await discovery inside the Great Pyramid, and that these very well may contain Khufu's grave goods.

I think that a preservation/conservation fee should be attached to aspects of tourism and research. Or if you discover it you conserve, preserve and help maintain. In the Dynasty 0-1 tombs at least they bury everything protectively.

Isnt this more a spam thread? I mean if there is a thread, you can just post it in ancient history
No this is not. This deals more with latest finds and general points of AE interest. We have an actual Egyptologist and seriously interested individuals who like all things AE. From the ethical treatment of mummies to the Scan Pyramids project. Current news articles of what is going on with Egyptology, excavations, and related items are posted for reading or discussion.

No spam crank garbage is welcome here.
