A wasteful defense spending plan. More money does not equal a better, more prepared force...but who wants to be the politician who "guts the military in the face of ISIS"?
If "more money means better quality", our lives would be much simpler; the real world isn't quite like that.

In Canada, 80% of all the foods are imported; should this be considered a great waste of distance and labour?
(Fact: the Kingdom of Netherlands is so small, but its value of agricultural exports is second only to the USA, and what does this mean?)
Building and living in the desert is possible, yes.
Taking away all entertainments will be unrealistic, but we can certainly limit these.
The eco-warriors might want to protect certain areas, but they might end up harming even more, and this does sound ironic!
Depends where the food comes from... If from nearby US, maybe there is not that much waste... If from far away places, then there is a lot of waste

Holland does a lot of "re exporting" so not sure their case is relevant

Yep, Canada has LOTS OF vegetables and fruits from US and Mexico, but of course we get something from distant regions: China, Thailand, etc, etc, etc.

We keep on thinking "investing more means better results"; the real world isn't exactly that simple.
Let's take medicine for an example; many of our current researches in modern medicine are simply wrong-headed; they will not yield fruitful results.
Is a better, more effective plan better than endless pour of funds?

Excessive bureaucracy (a certain amount is needed, but not too much) and corruption. Without those, what resources we have could be more efficiently utilized.
