If you're looking for popular history, Barbara Tuchman's "Stilwell and the American Experience in China 1911-45." Also Sterling Seagrave's "The Soong Dynasty"

I read Tuchman's book but felt it was narrow, but well written. Looking for something more detailed. Also read The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang. But am looking for a more detailed analysis of campaigns.

I've read a few other books that focused on the US involvement with the Chang family, but there is a lot missing herein that doesn't spend enough time looking globally at was occurring in China.

Forgotten Ally: China's World War II, 1937-1945 by Rana Mitter seems to have good reviews.
