Looking for indigenous histories of 16th century Mexico

May 2019
I'd really like to find some reading material on 16th century Mexico which has been written by, or in consultation with, members of indigenous communities, taking into account their own records and oral histories. I'm primarily interested in central Mexico (e.g. the Valleys of Mexico and Oaxaca) but I'm also interested in hearing histories from indigenous cultures farther north. I'd prefer sources translated into English if possible, but I can struggle through Spanish if that's the only lingo available.
