Veena is one of the ancient stringed musical instruments of India. Sataar ( aka Sitar, as popularised by Ravi Shankar ) was a medieval stringed instrument said to have been invented by Amir Khusrou. Pakhawaj, Mridangam are two different percussion instruments basic to Indian Music. Tabla, the two smaller percussion drum-like instruments are also of medieval age. There are many other instruments like the Jhanj, which is a pair of metallic plates, which are banged against each other.

Ajanta Caves actually depicts Tabla so its origin in ancient, Sitar is just renaming of Tritantri veena and it existed before Amir Khusrow.
