Veena is one of the ancient stringed musical instruments of India. Sataar ( aka Sitar, as popularised by Ravi Shankar ) was a medieval stringed instrument said to have been invented by Amir Khusrou. Pakhawaj, Mridangam are two different percussion instruments basic to Indian Music. Tabla, the two smaller percussion drum-like instruments are also of medieval age. There are many other instruments like the Jhanj, which is a pair of metallic plates, which are banged against each other.
