The only two instances that I know of, of native tribes mining metal ore are the Shawnee mining silver and the Sauk mining lead. From what I read, in both cases, it would be melted into crude bars and traded, with the lead, they probably also made bullets, but it was really just a few individuals doing this, it was not any sort of organized tribal industry. I know copper was worked in some places, but I don't know the details. I am curious if any tribes out west did mining and metal work to any extent.
