This is the reliquary that held parts of the True Crown. If you remember, the parts of True Crown, True Cross and True Nail were brought to Paris by Louis the Saint after his crusades, from Constantinople. He built the Saint-Chapelle to hold the relics. What it meant, politically, was the transformation of Paris from a townlet on the Seine into a big European city.

If it would be possible,i would be very happy that the new adress of Notre Dame was "Anthony Quinn place" ,in remember of his extraordinary prestation of Quasimodo in the film of 1956.Louis IX, " Saint Louis" had made political errors impossible to forget, even height centuries after….

It’s very positive news that none of the firefighters have died attempting to save the Church . And also very good news that no one has died in general because of this fire. It seems to be some sort of a miracle Considering the magnitude of the fire

Yesterday I expected that the vaulting had all fallen down since nothing showed above the level of the parapet. But as your attached diagram shows, the parapet level was right at he top of the vaulting, not the bottom of the vaulting. The wooden roof almost all burned up, and the lead roof tiles it supported all fell. I have seen pictures taken within that show some of the ceiling vaults standing and some fallen, no doubt because of falling roof timbers and lead tiles. I don't know what percentage of the vaults still stand.

I hope the roof will be rebuilt with more fireproof materials.

If this video is a good indication of the damage... it looks like the vaults seem to be in good shape. When buildings like this were built, they took fire into consideration, as there was no way to stop it in the Middle Ages... hopefully that will pay off here...

1 billion Euros is already donated to renovate Notre Dame de Paris. Donations are still coming. French renovators state it would take 10-15 years to renovate the cathedral. President Macron disagreed with them. He wants the renovation to be done in 5 years.

Whatever replaces the timbers it may not ALL be wood. Apparently there are not enough trees of adequate size available to rebuild what was destroyed. In any event, if the entire structure has not been too seriously compromised, modern engineering can probably do what is necessary to reconstruct Notre Dame.

Unless M. Macron is an architect or a structural engineer, I would bet on the other experts. Macron is, after all, a politician.

Russian government offered help to France saying if they need renovators, Russia has one of the best renovators specialising on renovations of old buildings of various type including those built from wood. There are known artists specialising on renovations. Also if particular wood is needed.

Even if he was an architect I would doubt he'd know how long it would take to renovate such a treasure when there are best people in the field are suggesting it's going to take a long time.

I don't think the rebuilding is going to be the issue. I think all the artistry that is going to have be recreated will be the most time consuming
