He was a top member of the SS, one of Hitler's favourite commanders, a fellow Austrian.

He led the daring raid that captured Mussolini from house arrest in Italy in September 1943, and the rather less successful attempt to use Germans disguised as U.S. troops to aid the German advance during the Battle of The Bulge.

After the war he worked for Mossad (Israeli intelligence), and played a substantial part in successfully disrupting an Egyptian rocket program that was heavily reliant on the use of German scientists from the Nazi era.
