Sanctions don’t work, I agree, but UN is a tricky thing. They kept Khmers Rouges as members till the 90es, so the logic of UN is hard to understand.

And kicking NK out of UN won’t work. You don’t understand. Until Kim agrees to...what? Stop being socialistic? He has no other idea how to run his economy.

The only similarity US and NK share sports-wise is Dennis Rodman, but he is not a compliment to anyone.
Nk has a pretty good Soccer(Futbol) team they have made the WC. And we also see some quality NK basketball players. The whole Dennis Rodman and Kim saga is interesting.

Yes the UN is tricky, its a good idea but it has corruption issues...and thats where the powerful of the world, Russia, China, England the USA should use their power to right the wrongs of the UN.

We can see that various types of governments, including theocracies, Democracies and Communist Countries are failed states. W/e the Gov of NK is, whomever the leader of NK is, the hope the world has is to see NK improve and become the sort of country that the USA or England is. Its a challenge thats for sure.

NK has also had difficulties launching missiles and fielding a strong and healthy military. We are decades removed from the Korean war. And since the Korean war there has been poverty and famines in NK. I very much feel Kim and NK are bluffing when they claim to have this much vaunted military...perhaps they used to in the 1950s but today it appears to not be the case.

A North Korean missile launch reportedly failed and blasted one of its own cities

In terms of conventional warfare they do have a pretty well equipped army. What condition that equipment or even the moral of the troops is anyones guess though. One of their main tricks are the massive tunnel systems they have built under NK. Intelligence reports suggest these tunnels can handle entire divisions comfortably.

They are geared up for a defensive war, and with 50 years to prepare, indications are they would be extremely tough nut to crack. It is the main reason they keep poking the US with a stick. Trying to goad the country into attacking them because they virtually have no offensive ability at all.

An interesting side note - The shared border between North and South Korea is the largest minefield in the world by orders of magnitude.

Its a interesting issue my friend. This source suggests NK has a weak airforce. But as you say this source still suggests the NK military is capable.. Question one may ask is how capable is the NK Military.

North Korea's Air Force Is Total Junk (But It Can Still Kill)

Even on a defensive scale how does one think a US stealth bomber, or the best Military China, England or Russia has to offer would fair against NK? Stealth bombers can fly undetected, and the US has the greatest air force in the world. At this time in history though it seems many nations even liberal ones oppose wars even for just causes.

If NK does not become more liberal, one idea could be to kick NK out of the UN. Various non war methods could be used to improve the lives of the NK people. There is the chance that even under Kim NK becomes a member of the civilized nations.

It would be fair to say that NK would lose air superiority about 30 seconds after war was declared. And they realize that, hence why so much of their military can be bunkered very deep underground. Another issue facing military options is terrain. NK is very rugged and this cause issues for most western forces due to their reliance on speed and maneuvering.

I am not a fan of expelling them from the U.N. About the only thing that would change would be the lack of access some of their citizens would have to valued UN programs. Sadly this would be of little concern to the elite :(

About the only solution I can think of (and this is wishful thinking) Just tell China, you take it, you can own it and we wont interfere, or raise any international concerns about an invasion.

I'm not entirely sure why NK is on the US' radar at all. The war is long over, and South Korea and Japan ought to be able to fend off any NK military incursion.

Obviously, there's now the issue of nuclear weapons on the table, but Kim would probably ignore the US if they ignored him. Perhaps East Asians should solve their own problems instead of expecting the US to do it for them.
Skor and Japan could easily deal wi Norks in conventional war
but if lil Kim really does have nukey-boom-booms
game changer.
possible Kim is just talking up his nukes for attention.
as did Saddam wi chem weapons.
presumably SKor and Japan want anti-missile defense stuffs
probly impossible considering short time involved

Both nations have Aegis equipped ships that provide ABM defence, and I believe South Korea already has land based US missile defence systems. Japan is installing Aegis Ashore systems.

The only nation that can alter the fate of North Korea is China. Outside looking in as China modernizes NK can only be a headache. Why would you need a buffer state when the USA can no longer topple your regime militarily.
