I've found Sitchin's work to be very interesting but does not hold up under scrutiny.

updated and detailed 'Chariots of the Gods' by Van Daniken.

my favorite is 'Lost Realms' in which he speculates on a pre-Columbian South America overrun by various outsiders until the natives rebelled and threw them all out (good on the natives I say).

All those ideas about aliens visiting the earth in ancient period and pre-history - or every other period in human history - it's mumbo jumbo pseudo-history.

It has zero credibility in the academic world and general public. Please, do not dwell too much on those ideas.

Interpreting the actions, writings and images of a long-lost civilization from another part of the world is difficult, to put it polity.

Unless this controversial archaeology noted in the OP happens to show a non-humanoid buried with a laser gun and stone tool this is entirely, as Robto said, mumbo jumbo pseudo-history.
