In august-september 1944,a lot of german troops, stationned in the South of France, have been attacked by the RAF between Pont Saint Esprit (Gard) and Lyon (Rhone). They tried to retreat in Germany by Burgondy and Lorraine.Unfortunatly for them, the RAF stationned in Algiers, was informed of all their movements and destroyed a lot of vehicles.Have we in England some informations about these attacks ?

Actually most of the tactical air support for the advance up the valley of the Rhone was performed by the US XIIth Tactical Air Force (under the overall control of the Mediterreanean Allied Tactical Air Force). 12 squadrons of RAF Spitfires were attached to cover the operation Anvil/Dragoon landings, and other RAF elements from Italy undoubtedly participated, as did several squadrons of the Free French Air Force. From 23-29 August 1944 XIIth TAC claimed destruction of 1400 motor transport vehicles, 30 locomotives and 263 railroad cars.

Thank you very very good for this complete answer. It corresponds to the evaluations of the maquis who spoke about less than 2000 vehicles…...which is enormous. The SNCF stations and the railways were completly pulverized.
