Reading of a Latin inscription

What does the indicated Latin word mean? Messinia? In affines? Or what? The words before it are "a Bethania".

Interesting! I have no idea what the words are, but they might be naming a road/direction route. "To Bethany" makes sense because the town of Bethany lies to the east of Jerusalem.

I think the gate depicted is the Jaffa Gate, which would be the western gate. The Tower of David is right there. The green ribbon would be the road to Bethlehem.

That makes sense, botully. The top of this map points east, not north. Can anyone read the writing on the road?
