Carole King wrote this song. When she heard Aretha cover it, Carole is said never to have sung it again in public. Aretha owned it now and Ms King didn't mind at all.

Stevie Wonder said the same thing about her - she owned a song once she'd sang it, and from that point it was no-one elses.

Aretha was the greatest pop vocalist of my generation, and possibly the greatest female pop vocalist ever. We won't hear her like again.

I've been listening to her a lot since she passed, and what now strikes me most is her timing. Many of her songs were extremely fast and the rhythms funky, but she was never out of time.

She was just an astounding singer.
