probably scroll motif itself developed in the indus valley civilization given similarity of the pipal tree motif with the scroll motif.

some western scholars have declared indian scroll as greek influence

Greco-Buddhist art, and direct luxury imports, brought scroll forms to India, for example to the great 1st century stupa at Amaravati in southern India,[19]
reverse has been proposed here
