During the 16th and 17th centuries was there any involvement by subjects of the Spanish Netherlands (Dutch, Belgians, etc.) in Spain's conquest and colonisation of the various territories in North America and Asia that made up New Spain? I would be curious to know about any roles these people might have served in New Spain (soldiers, colonists, sailors, etc.). Also, if there was any notable Dutch presence anywhere in New Spain, I would be curious to know what their reaction was when news of the Dutch Revolt reached them.
