The Black Stone of Elagabal is the Black Stone in Mecca?

Do we have factual proof to refute the theory that the black stone of the Kaaba isn’t (a remnant of) the sacred Emesan meteorite that Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus (Elagabalus) once brought to Rome in honour of El Gebal?

I'm not aware of recent scientific analyses conducted to find out which is the real nature of that stone. So that we can think a bit what we want.

As for I know the most credited explanations are:

- a stone which was already object of veneration [a case of litholatry, stone-worship];
- a little meteorite;

Anyway, today the stone is composed by fragments [it had crushed in Medieval time].

All news to me but shouldn't any question be 'what proof do we have that it is.......................................?'
