Who are the modern descendants of the Chola , the Chera and the Pandya imperial family? Is the present Travancore Royal family descendants of the Chera Royal Family?

Chola and Pandyan Descendants

Its difficult to spot out the Chera descendant. But we can find the present day descendants of Cholas and Pandyas.

We all know its hard to prove a man as a Chola descendant since he might not have any inscription or any other means to support his claim. Many years have passed.

Some say about DNA tests. But it wont be useful. We know Kings have many concubines and palace girls. There is no need to explain more as you all would understand.

There are some good and traditional ways to find a Chola or Pandya descendant.

Some historians managed to find he present Chola descendant.

He is in Pichavaram.

But how?

One thing which i know is through a traditional right that the Cholas had.

According to history Chola kings used to crown themselves in 5 selected places in Tamil land.

The town of Chidambaram is one of those 5 places.

The Chola kings used to crown themselves in Chidambaram Nadarajar temple.

The zamindars of Pichavaram enjoy this right. The zamindar used to get crowned in Nadarajar temple. The crown will be handedover by the Dikshitars to a saiva vellala (who is said to be the descendant of one of the Chola ministers) who crowns the zamindar.

According to sources the Dikshitars never will crown a non-Chola in the temple.During the kalabhra rule a powerful Kalabhra king wanted to get crowned in Chidambaram by the dikshitars. But the dikshitars refused to crown him saying "Cholarkanri sootoomudi"(we crown only the cholas and none else)

So its clear that the zamin family of Pichavaram is the present Chola descendant.

For those people who says its impossible to find the Pandyan descendant i put several questions before them.

1.The last known Pandyan descendant ruled till 1753 AD!!! This is a much later period in Tamilnadu history and so it must be possible to find the Pandyan descendant.

2.We know that palayams existed in southern Tamilnadu. The pandyans afte their downfall were scattered allover southern tamilnadu ruling small territories.Exactly the palayams and palayakarars existed during this period.A good example is Kattabomman the ruler of Panchalamkurichi. The present descendant of Katabomman is still living in southern tamilnadu.Easily spotted. Then why we are unable to find the Pandyan descendant?

Hey naresh Thanks for this very valuable information. But I have heard that Katabomman is a Telugu King and here is of Nayaka clan who ruled Madurai for certain point of time.

Mr.Sudharshan,

Yes you are right. My point is when u know Kattabomman is a telugu man and a nayak then why we are unable to find the clan to which pandyan belong?

Castes and clans were clearly know during this period but still we get no info about pandyas.

Its said that the Raja of Pandalam belong to Pandyan dynasty. You can refer to history of sabarimala.

But there are other Pandyan families too about whom we dont have any clue.

Pandyan ruling families existed in places like Tirunelveli,Thenkasi, sri villiputhur,Kayathar.

The last know pandyan descendant is a Pandya from thenkasi.
His name was Adigal perumal vela kulasekara Pandyadevar.
He ruled till 1753 AD.

After him nothing was known about the Pandyas.
